Interest in Employee Experience (EX) has increased exponentially in recent years. According to various business writers and HR consultancies, crafting compelling employee experiences is critical to business success.  As a result, a number of organizations have established EX programs to supplement their Employee Engagement programs. But what does Employee Experience mean?  While a variety of definitions and models exist, many seem like old wine in new skins.  For I/O scientists and practitioners, this raises a critical question: is EX just another fad, or a valid concept worthy of exploration and development?  During this session, Patrick Hyland, Director of Research & Development at Mercer Employee Research, will trace the evolution of the EX movement, propose a theoretical definition of the concept, provide a research framework for conducting EX research, and highlight various ways that Mercer has used this model to understand the employee experience during the pandemic.
